Fall is finishing up and winter is on the horizon. The A/C has been replaced by heaters in the rabbitries.
I now have 5 BEW bucks to work with and my three Vienna tort bucks. Since I am getting more Viennas than BEWS in the litters I am keeping a few excellent typed Viennas. I am strengthening the BEW line with my tort line being bred in and the results are cleaner and more defined. Face wool is flattening out and breaks are coming in earlier. Saddle fur is cleaner and wider. Correct head set and upright posers are retained while the slouchers or forward heads are eliminated. Wide shoulders with a smooth transition through the loin to the hips is critical.
I have first generation BEWs now being bred. The results of these litters will help me to determine the direction the line is taking and if the emphasis is on the qualities I am breeding for is productive. Due to the qualities being evaluated it means growing up these little blue-eyed white beauties until close to 4 months old.
Rebekah Bourlier, Mountain Ledge Lionheads, my partner in the BEW COD, is moving along with excellent progress. Both of us will have very nice BEWs/Viennas available as we breed heavily for the program.
